Basic Health Advice

Article Category: Health

There is a lot of conflicting information everywhere about how to best take care of your health. Since your health affects everything else in your life, you know you need to put good health near the top of your priorities. Not only should you eat right but you also need to take care of your body through properly resting.

Balance In Everything

Variety is not only the spice of life; it is a necessity to maintaining good health. Diet and exercise are very important for good health. But your diet can’t be just celery and vitamins. You need to make sure that your diet is filled with all the necessary nutrients to maintain your health. Try to balance your meals, if you look in the bible to see what the typical diet consisted of you will find that there was a good balance. For example, a typical breakfast for the apostle Paul consisted of a portion of fish, bread, cheese, grapes and a handful of olives. This type of diet gives you everything you need from protein to the recommended amount of dairy.

If you have never taken the time to research the bible to find out how God tells us to eat, you really should. There is a wealth of information. God created us, so he knows exactly what we need to keep our body in top condition. He thought of everything when he describes the types of meals eaten throughout the bible. His “nutrient pyramid” is perfect; he even throws in things like flaxseed not only for flavor, but for fiber.

Learn to Relax

Learning to relax is sometimes very hard for Christians. Many feel if they are not on the go for 16 hours a day that they are not being a “good” Christian. The fact is that many Christians run themselves ragged because of that perception. Remember even God took a full day just to rest. He didn’t actually need it, but because he knows our bodies, and he knew that we would, he showed us by example. Remember that resting on the Sabbath is not even a suggestion, it is a command. He already knows that you need it.

This is something that you may not hear very often, but it is ok to say “no.” That includes saying no to things that are still for a good cause. For example, if there is a bake sale coming up on Saturday and the people organizing it needs 200 brownies, and the only way you can possible fit it into your schedule is to stay up until 2 AM to finish them, just say no. You cannot serve the Lord enthusiastically if you are completely worn out, and he would rather have you do 3 things during the week happily and with a good heart, then doing 10 things begrudgingly and complaining the entire time.

So by eating correctly and resting accordingly, we not only restore our bodies, we also restore our spirit so that we can serve God even better. When you keep yourself well balanced you will see that you are sick less often, and less worn out. You general overall health will be much improved.
