Honoring God With Your Body
As a Christian, you know that God expects us to treat our body with the utmost respect. It is in fact his temple, where the Holy Spirit resides (1 Corinthians 3:16-17). He gives very specific details on what he does and does not what us to do with our body. Our general health comes from the food we eat, the types of exercise we do and preventative medicines.
Many Christians are going back in history for medicines. There is a new trend toward using alternative medicines. These medicines generally work around natural remedies. They use things that God put on this earth to cure aches, pains, and diseases. There are several examples in the bible to prove that this is a biblically sound practice. For example in 2 Kings 20:7, Isaiah used a poultice made from figs to cure a boil. You can bet that there are some alternative medicine companies that are Christian based. Many of these companies offer seminars that you can attend to learn more and network with other Christians looking to move alterative medicines into their homes.
The food we put in our bodies is also very important. If we don’t eat right we don’t feel good. We will also become overweight, which leads to all sorts of health problems like high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease. Over eating is as much a sin as say, smoking is. It is just more acceptable in our society. God was very specific when he told the Jewish people what they could or could not eat, and he did it for a reason, so that their bodies would be healthy. There are Christian food companies that are available to supply you with the foods that God wants us to eat, and help you incorporate them into your daily life. I assure you it does not include eating at a fast food restaurant every day.
If your weight has gotten out of control for you, you may need help getting the extra weight off. Start by looking for a Christian based weight loss program. These programs are not just about the food; they also focus on your spirituality. They work with your body, mind, and spirit. They incorporate prayer and encouragement into their programs. You will be around people who understand what you are going through both physically and mentally. Once you understand the biblical aspects of food, you can incorporate it into a healthy life style.
You may need a little guidance in incorporating a general, overall healthy life style into your home, but there are experts out there to help. The best thing about it is you can find companies where they use biblical principles, taught in the bible, as the basis of their programs. This will give you a deeper understanding of what God expects from us.
“You are not you your own, you were bought with a price. Therefore honor God with your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:20.
