The idea for an interdenominational ministry resource emerged back in 1974 in Loveland, Colorado. Youth worker Thom Schultz was frustrated with the lack of resources to help him in youth ministry and was determined to do something about it. He started a youth ministry magazine called GROUP. It was a rather crude tabloid-size publication with 24 pages of black ink on newsprint. Group had no real office for the first couple of years. The work was done on an old card table in a spare bedroom in Thom Schultz's rented duplex in Loveland. As the years passed, Group began designing resources for all aspects of church ministry--youth ministry, children's ministry, pastoral ministry, family ministry, educational ministries, and missions.
From the beginning, and through all of Group's products and services, Group has encouraged Christian growth through the unique approach of "authentic learning." In the past 25 years, Group has grown to be an organization of over 250 staff-people who are dedicated to helping children's and youth workers, Sunday school teachers, Christian education directors, and pastors bring millions of children, teenagers, and adults closer to God.
